A break indeed!
Picture this scene.
You are in the men’s room and right in the middle of a serious discussion. Suddenly everyone is so excited and pumped up that, soon there are fireworks going off in all the directions. You try and keep cool. But someone is clever enough to notice that and throws in a few personal words. You still try to maintain calm. Another fellow joins and in no time there is a personal attack on you. What do you do, then?
What I did
Taken off guard and numbed by that attack, I sit dumfounded for a moment or two. I make an attempt to say something but all that comes out is an incoherent mumble. And then silence descends and slowly gloom takes over. I make a desperate attempt to maintain composure, but its too late and is very obvious to everyone. A few of them make a quick turnabout and start supporting me. But for myself, I am no longer interested in continuing.
What I learnt
The lesson I learnt is that when a discussion is veering away on a different track, its time to take stock of the situation and hold back. Either they have lost all ammo or they are pissed off. And before the situation worsens and things go down to a very personal mud-slinging fest, better end the discussion.
So
There was no post regarding the men’s room in the last two days. I thought I should take a break and go onto some other issues.
But
I can’t wait to get back to reporting on the men’s room discussions!
